3/4 length sleeves on a coat?

Today I received the BWOF March issue. It's not as inspiring to me as the February issue, but there are three (!) trenchcoat patterns in it. Great, isn't it.

But... I saw one of the patterns (the red) has 3/4 length sleeves and to me that looks silly. What do you think about that? Would you wear a coat with 3/4 sleeves?

  1. I would not wear a trench coat with 3/4 length sleeves. I do have a leather jacket with 3/4 inch sleeves, but I just wear it to look fashionable (HA!)--not to stay warm.

  2. I haven't posted here before but I love your blog and follow it regularly, and when I saw this post it looked interesting.

I actually like the 3/4 sleeves on this lightweight spring jacket. It wouldn't do for a cold weather coat when you're looking to cover up the skin and keep warm. But I think this would be great for warmer weather when you just want a little cover up from the breeze or when the sun hides in the clouds, but want hands free for shopping, driving, etc. I love the 3/4 length on shirts since I have shorter arm length and always have to adjust my patterns, or roll up sleeves on RTW to keep the cuffs out of the way. I like the way this jacket looks and I think it would be comfortable in my case.

Thanks for making such an interesting and fun blog!

  3. certainly not for winter, as I cannot afford the long gloves, preferably cashmere lined leather, that would be needed to make it wearable. In a light weight spring jacket , yes, but I am not sure I like it for a trench style. I am jealous that you actually get your Burda before the next month starts!

  4. kind of defeats the purpose of wearing a coat. if it is just a jacket "for show," 3/4 sleeves are fine, but a coat needs sleeves.

  5. I think the 3/4 sleeve is quite chic, it was Jackie O's signature look.

  6. As much as I love 3/4 sleeves, they take the classic trench into the trendy realm. If I were going to all of the effort to make a trench, I better get more than a season's wear out of it.

  7. I love how the 3/4 sleeves look, but I have yet to own a coat like this. I am always worried about being cold while waiting outside for the bus somewhere.

  8. I think it looks pretty chic, but it doesn't look so good with long sleeves underneath. So I wouldn't want it to be my only trench for that reason.

  9. I like the 3/4 length sleeves on the trench. I think it looks nice. I have long arms, and don't usually like the way full-length sleeves look on me.

  10. I live in the southern part of the US, and I can imagine enjoying this coat. When it rains or is very windy, 3/4 length sleeves might help the coat from being too warm!

  11. I agree it is silly but I love 3/4 sleeves on coats. I love the look but if your concern is warmth forget it ;o)

  12. I've been seeing more and more 3/4 length sleeves on coats this year. In fact, I got some elbow length gloves so that if I decide to make one, I can!

  13. THE 3/4 LENGTH SLEEVE USUALLY LOOKS UNBALANCED TO ME ON MOST CLOTHING ESPECIALLY COATS. FASHION OR NOT I WOULD NOT BUY ANY CLOTHING ITEM WITH THIS SLEEVE. I DO PUSH UP OR ROLL UP MY SLEEVES WHEN I HAVE A PROJECT OR JUST IF IT FEELS GOOD, SAY ON A DENIUM SHIRT. I LIKE THE FEEL OF THE ROLL AT THE 3/4 LENGTH YET I CAN ALWAYS ROLL IT DOWN AND BUTTON THE CUFF.FASHION DOESN'T SAY MUCH TO ME BUT COMFORT DOES. I'M TIRED OF SEEING 3/4 SLEEVES, SEVERAL LAYERS LOOK SLOPPY. PANTS THAT HANG IN PLACES ON A WOMEN'S BODY THAT CAUSE ROLLS OR DON'T FEEL OR LOOK GOOD ARE CRAZY. BIG, BIG, LAYERED JEWELRY IS THE LATEST FASHION MISTAKE!
