BWOF jacket ready to finish

Back to a post about real sewing again. Yesterday evening I just had to take my mind of work, and my eyes from the computer screen. And sewing is really good to take my mind off other things.

The jacket is coming along nicely, the fabric is very easy to sew with. And all the preparation work really pays off. No fit alterations, the interfacing makes it feel a bit more stable, but not stiff. And as it's far from hot here at the moment and only raining, it feels more like fall than summer, so sewing a jacket like this seems appropriate. Otherwise I would be diverted to summer tops.

It has a  lot of pins still in, for the closing, at the sleeves and to hold the shoulder pads. There is still a little space in the back, but this disappears immediately when I move my arm a bit. For next time (and yes, I think I will sew this one again soon in a beautiful blue fabric I have) I will take out a bit on the back, and leave this one as is. In general I think it's pretty good, and I can finish it.

And when I give the impression making no mistakes while sewing: this is the second collar, and I had to take out part of one sleeve, because it was eased differently from the other sleeve. The seam ripper is never far away.

  1. Looking good! The jacket compliments your natural shape with your small waist. You will be so elegant once this is done.

  2. LOL yeah what would I do without that seam ripper? Looking good and it's flattering and as Summerset remarked, it accents your small waist.

  3. Lovely jacket. The collar sits really nicely. When I made it, I had trouble with the collar sitting up. I tried a few different interfacings until I got an acceptable look, but yours is perfect. The fabric is a great choice for that style. Can't wait to see it finished!

  4. Very pretty! The shaping is amazing. I really like how the collar stands away from the neck a little bit.

  5. Pretty good? That's an understatement! :) You are being too modest. It's a beautiful jacket which fits you perfectly. I love the shaping in this pattern. It screams Burda drafting.

  7. Your jacket looks great and the fit is good. The "room" at your back should be there at the upper back, it is called "drape" and it has a function so you can move your arms forward.
