Google reader is disappearing

Follow my blog with Bloglovin

Like many of you I used to follow a lot of blogs with Google reader. I'm not yet completely happy with Bloglovin and will probably use GR till the last day. Especially because I can read a complete post without clicking to go to the blog itself. That's such a great feature. But times are changing so I will (have to) get used to it....

  1. Hey Sigrid, why not try feedly instead? I don't find a whole lot of difference from Google reader and the chrome plugin is very handy! You import your Google reader feeds so I am happily following already :) Chloe

  2. You could try Old Reader (http://theoldreader.com/). It's intended to be a direct substitute to Google Reader. I'm more or less alternating between OR and Feedly for the time being but I probably prefer OR overall.

  3. I am right with you on this. I could get used to Bloglovin' if I had to, were it not for the fact that on some blogs (yours is one) I cannot click through to comment...all I get is a blank screen when I try. I don't know if it's a problem with my interface or what, but that is a deal breaker for me. I've got Old Reader bookmarked and intend to migrate over there at the first available opportunity. :-/

  4. Lisa, and others: If when using Bloglovin' you cannot click through to comment, do this-go to the task bar at the top of the Bloglovin' post and click on the X on the right side. It will remove the frame and you will be able to comment. HTH!

  5. I second the nomination of feedly. I like that I can customize how I see each category of my blogs. Some I like in list format so I can blast past the ones that don't interest me. Others I see in card form with small pictures (mostly fashion). I still have to click on the cards to see the full text, but they open right in feedly. Now that I'm getting used to it I kind of like it. It's like Reader with a few enhancements, but a little different in ways that don't really count.

  6. One thing that I do like about Bloglovin is that it makes it easy to follow blogs on Wordpress and other non-Google blogs.

But, I highly resent the advertisement that they put in the blog roll, so I'm watching to see what others come up with.

I agree with Mary about removing the frame to comment.

  7. If you can't comment on a blog (on Bloglovin), right click on the "Post a Comment" and open a new window, then you can comment.

  8. I tried Bloglovin and didn't like it. Feedly's much better and a few of the features are even better than GR. Definitely worth giving it a try.

  9. Wow I see several people didn't care for Bloglovin -- so it wasn't just me! I am using Feedly, it imported my blog easy peasy with the Reader Sub thing -- and it was easy to install & set up on my phone and my tablet too --- I still don't get the whole thing with bloggers (the ones doing the blogging) needing to register with blog lovin -- if it is an RSS reader as it should be the blogger shouldn't need to do anything --- Feedly requires nothing for the blogger to do -- I have gotten accustomed to Feedly now, and enjoy it.

  10. Have you tried feedly yet? It imports all your blogger feeds and has lots of useful settings.

  13. I, too, love Feedly and couldn't believe how easy it was to convert. Almost instantly, I loved it more than the Google reader(and I don't usually like change!)
