DVN skirt

The skirt inspired by a Dries van Nooten skirt is still a work in progress. I did some sewing in the past weeks, made two muslins and a knit top and a cardigan. I’ll show them later, they’re not very special and I didn’t find the time to blog.

In real life the faux leather doesn’t have as much shine as the picture suggests, but  I’m thinking of unpicking it and make it with another fabric. I’ll give it some thought, have the skirt hanging in my sewing room and just not sure what to do. Doesn’t matter, I’ll do a few other things before finishing this.

One and a half week ago I had the great pleasure of meeting Pauline in The Hague. She was the one who inspired me to sew the lace twinset. This is her blog: P’s thrifty sewing blog. It was a real pleasure, we had a lovely chat, a lot sewing related of course. She showed me some wonderful things she made herself and took with her on her travels. Her own lace twinset among them. Thank you Pauline for a lovely evening, hope we’ll meet again.

  1. Sigrid ~ the skirt is looking very interesting now and I understand you putting it away until you have a better handle on it. But may I ask a question, I thought Dries pieces had a floral or print piece included in the mixed fabrications? Did the inspiration skirt not have one? Is that why you haven't included one in your skirt?

Okay that was more than one question...*smile*...but I'm fascinated by this collection of clothing by Dries and am following the progress of your skirt with much interest!

  2. It's looking very interesting. I especially like the tweed piece. I like the textural contrast with the faux leather.

  4. I think it's funkalicious in its current state. But I totally get that annoying niggle that says you could do better. I'm looking forward to hearing about what you end up doing :P

  5. I like the faux leather. Part of what is interesting about the skirt is all the different textures and I think you'd lose that if you replaced it with regular fabric. Totally cool piece!

  6. Sigrid it was a real pleasure meeting you and seeing some of your own sewing projects and can't wait until we meet again when I am next in The Netherlands.

Your skirt is looking interesting - I have just bought some faux leather so this will be a first for me using this type of fabric.

I did wear my lace twin set, but sadly the photos I had on my camera were at a distance and it didn't look like lace at all.

    Did you finish your jeans?

  7. I like this skirt and I like the leather piece. But the wearer has to be comfortable with the look. I think the fabric combo works well and just a great appealing skirt to me.

  8. This is such a beautiful skirt. I can understand you wanting a breather from it, but when it's complete it will be a garment that will get you stopped in the street. It's lovely!

  10. I love your skirt, you are so quick in getting your garments together. I have been a bit slow in my garment sewing since I saw you. I did finish my wall hanging though.
