Next on the list

Feels like a long time ago I was sewing. It just isn't happening at the moment. My daughters top (which she was happily wearing last weekend) was just a small project of only a few hours all together.

Blog reading is the same: there are more than 200 new posts on my bloglist in google reader. Impossible to read them all and I feel overwhelmed. Perhaps I should click the "mark all as read" button and start again.

As more often I'm thinking of temporarily stopping with blogging, on the other hand, keeping track on my blog, gives me the feeling that I finish what I start, which has been different in the past. And it lets me think about my sewing and often start something which I otherwise would postpone or not do.

Like this top, I had only 1 meter of fabric and was searching for a summer top that could be made with only that length. Publishing my "to do" list made me actually search for the pattern, while otherwise it might well have been left for yet another year. Summers here are unpredictable and not very long. Till now I almost had no occasion to wear real summer clothes. In between seasons is far more useful.

This top (BWOF 06-2008-109) could be made out of just the meter of fabric when omitting the tie. It's cut, marked and interfaced where necessary. The next thing is to go sewing. Perhaps tomorrow.

  1. I did a mark all as read this weekend. I couldn't keep up. But, don't give up the blogging. We love what you do when you're able to do :)

  2. I agree with Cidell. Suggest you give up on Google reader. You should be able to scroll down and look at what comes in on your dashboard. Less taxing on your inbox too.

  7. You do a lot of blogging between this site and the lingerie sewalong. Maybe just take a summer break? I, too, would miss you if you were completely gone!

  8. I would say keep blogging...for yourself if not for others. I started blogging to join in at patternreview, but I really appreciate having a record of what fabrics and patterns I used and what changes I made...I always think that I will remember next time I pull the pattern out, but really, I am just kidding myself. Of course, this could be done with pencil and paper, but the blogging encourages the discipline (and we love seeing your work).

  9. Yes, I'd hate to lose touch with you. Just do write when you can and read when you can. We know you're out there.

  10. I am sure you will do a fantastic job on that blouse! It's nice it can be made with such a small amount of fabric.

  11. Love the fabric and blouse! Don't stop blogging, at least not altogether! Maybe it's time for a break for a while. I do enjoy your posts and you've been inspiring to me in many ways.

  12. I understand the blogging issue. For me, blogging has made such a difference in my weaving that I would never give it up. Like you, I do/try things I might not otherwise, and writing reinforces my commitment to what I am doing. But the reading......... I too use a reader (Bloglines) which helps some. I find myself skimming more and more. I do sort them into categories and that helps. So I think the problem lies, not in writing a blog, but reading all of them!

  13. I only pick a few blogs that I read all the time. The other ones, I try to catch up on every couple of weeks. Don't get overwhelmed. It's not an obligation! We love reading your posts, so just post when you can, read when you can, and don't worry about it!

  14. Blogging and reading blogs should be fun not a chore. Just mark all as read and move on. Post when you can and don't feel you need to do more.
I love that top and I have been thinking of trying it when Summer arrives here!

  15. Completely understand about the blog reading aspect. I don't think I'll get back to my blog for a week or two. One post in the month of June and that's it. It happens. Life happens. Right now I'm playing catch-up on a Saturday night.
