Dart manipulation inspiration

It’s nice to read in the comments there are others working on pattern drafting and dart manipulation too. I don’t think you see it a lot in the blogosphere. If you know blogs/sites let me know in the comments, it would be nice to see it more.

Apart from the in person classes I took Suzy Furrer’s Craftsy class on dart manipulation and it was a great inspiration. I only bought this class a little over a week ago, and I can heartily recommend. She’s very clear and deals with the subject very, very well. She uses the imperial system, but it’s not a problem as in this class it’s not about taking your own measurements and converting that to a paper pattern. It works from a sloper/block pattern, which I have. (disclaimer, I’m not affiliated to Craftsy, this is just a great class if you’re interested in pattern drafting/changing patterns).

Browsing the internet as one does from time to time for inspiration, I found this top. Certainly dart manipulation, combined with pleats/doubled fabric and a ruffle. The ruffle is a bit much to me, I’m not a ruffle-person in general, but the variation is something I might try.

This top is from the Jil Sander collection spring 2015, price 690 euro. It’s not even made from silk.

Inspiration

image

Life (read work) took the reign over my sewing plans, haven’t done much since my sneak peak picture, except for partially assembling the lining. And what does one do when spending long hours at a computer screen? As a break some virtual shopping and getting inspiration. I love the lines of this jacket by Marni.I’ve seen it on Net a porter.
Wanted to post a link but now can’t find it, it was new in the collection.

Must keep this in mind for spring/summer.

Inspiration Monday

I used to have a slideshow in my sidebar with photos from rtw that I found inspirational. In one of the blog layout changes that was lost and I never set it up again. Thought it might be nice to occassionally share a “find”  with you. It’s not intended as a “to do” list for me, it’s inspiration and more like a virtual bulletin/moodboard.
Here’s a coat from Mural that I saw on Nordstrom’s website.I recently saw a coat like this in a shop and remember having seen one on a blog quite a while ago, only no idea where. Thanks to Lin3arossa I now know where: Tany!
I like the angle of the zipper on this variation.

Inspired

My most recent jacket made me realise that this is the type of jacket I like best: fitted, definite waist shaping and special design lines. In my head the next one is getting shape. For the moment that is what it is, I’m not yet drawing the pattern, but hope to do that once the current (smaller) projects are done. I have learned that it best for me to work at one garment at a time, but have broken that “rule” and am working on a pair of trousers, a blouse and a bra. I really have to finish those first.
I’ll leave you with some screenshots of my inspiration.
