Back home

After three weeks that is a good feeling. We had a wonderful holiday in which we drove from the Black Forest in Germany to Northern France to meet a cousin of my husband and her family, who started a camping site there. Then we travelled south to the Ardèche and the last week we were in the very south of France, near Cannes. Most of the time it was a more active holiday: canoing, climbing trees and slinging down from them, walking and swimming.

I did take my sewing machine, but didn't get a lot done. It was very, very warm and I didn't feel like sewing much. But I did set up my sewing machine one or two times, doesn't this look like a perfect sewing setup?

This was the garden in the last house we rented, near Cannes. At home I would never bother to take my sewing machine outside, but here it was gorgeous to do that. The iron and board were in the house, I didn't take those with me!

It was a lovely house, and we even had internet access there (my husband took his laptop), so I was able to catch up a bit from there.

These were waiting for me at home, I'll write more on my additions to my sewing library later.

Hope you all are fine and starting your sewing for the new season. For me I'm looking forward to fall sewing. First I'm going to finish my dress/jacket combination. The jacket will probably more of a Chanel-jacket. I've joined the Chanel sew along (see sidebar) and think JoanneM was right in her comment on the fabric, that it is perfect for a Chanel-style jacket. To be continued...

  1. My goodness you must be keen to take your sewing machine on holiday (and very nice it is to). I think my husband would think I was nuts.

  2. welcome back to blogdom!
I would love your opinion of the David Coffin book when you've had a chance to look it over. I have his earlier cd book on pants and wasn't impressed, so before I shell out for it I'd love to get your opinion.

  3. Ahhhhh! I have to tell you. Jealousy abounds. How fantastic that you can actually drive to all those different countries on one vacation! Welcome back!

Oh, and I LOVE the outdoor sewing setup. Sometimes I think I should try that at home :)

  5. An *ideal* sewing site! Lucky you to have an active holiday vacation with family, and come home to sewing goodies. What a great idea to make sure there's something to put a smile on your face when you get back.

  6. Sigrid - when you rent homes in France do you rent through an agent or online? It's just that I've often thought I'd like to do this (from Australia) but it's a little more distant to organise? I love the setup with your machine by the way.

When I think about it, couldn't we set up some wonderful house swaps around the world, the houses would come complete with sewing machines so we wouldn't have to take them with us but that would be a huge step. I'm not sure how many of us can bear to let our babies be handled by others. It's food for thought though.

  7. MareeAlison: nice idea on a house swap, but difficult to organize.

We rent the houses in France through an agent here in the Netherlands. They have a huge website and all sorts of houses. If you want to know more let me know, I'll send you some more information.
