Hi

Hi, it’s been a very long time since I posted anything here. Hope you are doing well in this strange year with the pandemic all over the globe. I’m fine, have been sewing but not blogging. I have also started a new adventure and started giving sewing lessons in the small town I live and will soon start at another location too. Exciting and love to do that. It’s great to share the love of sewing in real life too (as long as lockdown does not prevent classes, as at the moment, hopefully we can start again next week).

I’ve been doing a bit of housekeeping and have removed quite a few of the tutorials I had here because I think they need better photos, better instructions and/or a better layout.

In fact I’m thinking about what to do with the blog: keeping it or not? Start afresh with a bit of different content (still sewing!)? Start another blog that I can more easily adjust visually? Re-do the tutorials and have an English and a Dutch version? Make them in video format? PDF format? Talk more about the different pattern magazines I use? Make a pattern from a magazine each month from one of them and share the experience?

At the same time I feel there’s already so much information to be found online, what would I add that’s not already there in many variations?

I invite you to share your thoughts. If you look for a tutorial online, what are you looking for? Can you find it? What would you like to see on this blog? Any other ideas?

Looking forward to read your input. Even if it’s just a hello it’s great to hear from you.

  1. It's so nice to see a post from you! I'm glad to hear you are still sewing and even teaching others.

I like tutorials that are not video. A description and photos are usually good enough for me.

  2. Dear Sigrid, I have followed your blog for many years; don't stop!! As for more tutorials, yours are really good and through, but perhaps you'd like to spend your time doing other things, as there are now so many out there? Good luck w/your sewing teaching!!

    1. Thank you for still following along and your well wishes.
I really like to make tutorials and am making them for teaching purposes now too. Think I'm just a bit uncertain about my adding anything new to what's out there already.

  3. I also have followed your blog for many years. You are very inspiring and it would be a loss if you stopped blogging. I have downloaded a Knipmode pattern and am using your Dutch to English sewing translations to help me with understanding the instructions as google translate only can do so much with sewing translations.

    1. Thank you for still following along. I really had forgotten about that document, it must be 10 years since I published that? Very nice to know it's still helping!

  4. As with the other replies, I have followed your blog for years. I love your traditional format and get a lot out of reading about your sewing adventures. I know blogging takes a lot of commitment, but I'd love to see you continue!

    1. Thank you too for still following me. It is a lot of commitment but perhaps I can just focus on posts once or twice a month. It's food for thought for me right now. I don't want to "disappear" completely.

  6. I just like to see what you are sewing. I have found that I miss the content now that many sewers are sharing on instagram rather than blogging. I hope you find a way forward that works for you.

    1. Thank you and yes, that is a change I've seen too. And though I like to see the sewing community that is present on IG too, there's a lot less detail than there used to be in blogs. And if you find something, much more difficult to remember/keep track.

  7. Thank you for continuing your blog. I have learned much from you! Stay safe and healthy...God bless you also on your sewing classes!

  8. So happy to hear from you again. It’s inspiring seeing what other sewers are making. The one good thing the pandemic has caused is people are learning to sew again. I live in the USA an it’s hard to find good use sewing machines. The very best with your sewing classes. Your students have a wonderful teacher.

  9. Please keep posting! I like to see others' sewing projects, even though my own garment sewing has fallen off the cliff since retirement.

As to tutorials, unless it is something that involves action, I much prefer photos. And even then, I think I'd prefer a series of photos. I find it difficult to stop a video where needed when I need to see and study details.

As to language, I've been reading some Dutch needlework & quilting blogs where the text has both languages, others have only Dutch and the Google translate usually works to follow what they are saying. Some languages - not so much. I'd rather run a blog through the translator than have people stop blogging because it becomes too much work.

  10. I forgot to say - I know how much work it is to keep up a blog and posts, so please don't add pressure and start to think "it's been 2 weeks, I have to post...something" ! So many bloggers have gone to IG, FB, or worse - stopped altogether.

    1. Thank you for your thoughts on the language issue. And happy to read you can follow Dutch. I remember I once tried to translate my own (non native) English into Dutch using Google translate and I had the most funny translation, but would not have been able to understand. Admittedly that is from the early days of the translation possibilities.
I try not to feel a pressure to post. After blogging for so many years there's also a repeat in feelings like this I realize now. Sometimes it's just difficult to keep focused. But I do not plan to stop altogether.

  11. I just wanted to say hi! And to thank you for your blog and the tutorials you've had over the years. I know blogging is challenging. However, a friend and I were having a conversation the other day about the difference between blogging and IG. How you got more quality information on a blog and had actual conversations. Just a thought to add to whatever you're presently thinking.

  13. So glad to hear from you Sigrid. Congratulations on the teaching. What an exciting new opportunity for you!

Re your blog: Your tutorials on tailoring are nothing short of superb and I have referred to them repeatedly (and referred others to them).

I also thoroughly enjoy your blog and projects. Our figures are similar so your projects inspire me. Whatever format you choose for the future, I'll be there~ Gayle in Canada

  14. Personally, I always look forward to your posts, I actually keep them for when I have some time when they show up in my reader as I find them well written (like a chat) really helpful and chock-full of info.
For example, you once wrote that your measurement between the arms on your back put you in a size 32 in burda, but the bust measurement was a 40 (not remembering exactly) and since I always had bunching behind my arms and gaping in front, I checked that measurement for the first time. Ever since, I start with a 36 in the shoulders grading to a 32 in the back and a 40 in the front and it all fits perfectly, but I wouldn't have thought to check had it not been for your post.
Long story short, I love your blog, your writing, I always find something new to me and most important I trust you as a source, be it for reviews or technical stuff.
It's a bit egotistical, but please keep writing your blog!

  16. Sigrid, you're a trusted sewing authority. Your blog posts are always a joy to read. There's usually some little bit of knowledge somewhere that broadens my horizons. Like the above commentors have said, if you post it we'll read it with pleasure. Don't doubt the vslue of your tutorials. There are a lot of wannabes and posers out there. You're the real deal. I don't like IG. It's a time suck, and the details are missing. I really do appreciate how much of yourself you've invested in blogging, and hope you continue.

  18. Lovely to see your post and to know that you are well and sewing.  Any post of yours is interesting, informative, chatty and your tutorials are great as they are.   I have saved all of them just in case of a computer glitch, and I have in fact used two of them this week!  As others have said, there is a lot of information out there, but far toomuch of the "I learnt to sew last month I now I want to teach you" variety.  Yours come from an expert, and I love to see the garment s you have sewn.  Please keep blogging as time allows, I read everything with pleasure!  Angela

  19. Glad to see you're doing well, Sigrid. I pretty much stand where you stand right now... Trying to figure out what to do, if it is all worth it, etc. I've been extremely busy also; still sewing, but not as much as I'd wish to. Take care, all the best, my sewing friend :*

    1. Good to hear from you as well Tany. Perhaps we all get to the "what to do, is it worth it" at some point. Both you and I have been blogging for so long now. You know I value your posts a lot.
      Take care too!

  20. How nice to do the teaching! I also started doing that a couple of years ago and it's really fun to go back to basics to figure out how to best explain to new stitchers. I do prefer blogs, I find reading them more relaxing than scrolling through IG. Hope you continue to write :)

  21. Hi Sigrid. Your blog is the reason I decided to make my own undergarments. I would never have even tried to make a bra without having seen your beautiful, precise creations. I didn’t know it was possible! I have enjoyed seeing your projects so much over the years. Thanks for sharing! Whatever you decide to do, I am sure it will be helpful and unique!

  22. Thank you Jen, lovely to know I've inspired you into making your own bras.

  23. So great to hear from you, Sigrid. I second that your work makes you an authority and the way it is presented in your blog and tutorials is so helpful to so many. You wonder what you can bring to your blog any more. You bring you and we love that. That includes so very much depth, your bright personality, your honesty, your successes and failures, your amazing skills and will to share them and on and on. You are such a valued member of the sewing community and I say please continue but in your own timeline.

As for myself, I am also thinking what is next. I am also needing to do some serious cleanup on the blog and then what? It is a big commitment. I do love to write but sometimes other things call. While I still work, I can see new roads opening as well. One day at a time...........

    1. Thank you for your thoughts Bunny, good to hear from you. I'm looking forward to your new roads (if they are sewing related). But as you say, one day at a time.

  24. Back again to say that if you have a tutorial you'd like to post, then post it without worry over whether or not someone else has also posted a tutorial for that technique. We don't all follow all the blogs, so some may never see another's tutorial. It's your blog, so post what you want, when you want. :-)

  26. Hello Sigrid I thoroughly enjoy reading your blog and have also benefited from your tutorials. I prefer a blog to IG and am in the process of starting mine back up if only for the reference of my makes which I have been missing.

Your tips are always very practical and I find them useful. Don't stop!
