First of all thank you for your kind words on my last post. They certainly helped. As this is mainly a blog about sewing I will not write too much about my feelings or private life, but sometimes I can’t help myself writing a little personal note.
I would like to say a special hello to the Dutch ladies who commented on my post on the exhibition in The Hague, nice to know you’re here and like to read my blog.
The jacket is coming along slowly. Tonight I’ve assembled some “easy” pieces. The front piece with zipper and special topstitching from zipper to dart I’ll leave for a moment when I have enough time to do it all at once.
I've taken my old extra sewing machine (bought second hand, I don’t know how old it actually is) out of its cover and installed this one for topstitching. It does that much better than expected actually. It saves me continually changing threads on one machine.
As said in my last post, the jacket is a combination of two patterns, the first one has the collar that I wanted, including the special stand construction:
This is from the June 2004 issue
and this one from the January 2007 issue (line drawing in previous post)
And Nowak, thanks for the update on the Burda archives, hope they will be back soon.
Your jacket is looking great. The second machine is a good idea with all the topstitching.
ReplyDeleteOh I love that January Burda jacket and wear mine all the time. It has the look of a jeans jacket but the fit is so much more shapely. I really should sew another. I hope you like yours when you are finished.
ReplyDeleteWhat a coincidence. That is the same collar I have been looking for. I really love both of those jackets. I would love to hear what you learn from your teacher. I am always interested in fitting adjustments.
ReplyDeleteThat's a need idea to set up the other sewing machine for the topstitching. I'll have to remember that one. Can't wait to see your jacket finished.
ReplyDeleteI really do love that stand that burda uses. It makes it very easy to play around with bias in the rest of the undercollar and to cut the stand on the straight grain. The jacket really looks like it's coming along well.
ReplyDeleteSome information about your machine! In 1965 my mother bought this Elna Supermatic model. If I am remembering correctly, it was a new model in 1961. This is the machine I learned to sew on. I got along better with the machine than mother did so I laid claim to it and never looked back.
ReplyDeleteI hope your machine runs as well as mine has through the years!
I love my old elna, I can't imagine using anything else. You can't beat them for nice stitching.
ReplyDeleteAfter seeing your post, I realized that I need to put that January Burda pattern back on my list. I love it! I also need to remember to set up that second machine for top stitching! Look forward to seeing your progress on your jacket.
ReplyDeleteHello Sigrid , Your sewing machine is about 1973 Its the same as my mothers and a VERY good machine . My sewing mechanic always says that they dont make them like that any more .Hers is still going stong and yes isnt it great having 2 machines set up??
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to seeing the finished jacket. I want to make a jeans jacket for myself, too!
