This might be a bit cryptic title. What has sewing to do with running, apart from that you could sew workout clothes? For me A LOT. If you have been following my blog for some time you might know that I met quite a few bloggers and other sewista’s during the past years. A group of ladies meets quite regularly now and last November we met in Canterbury (UK). One of the ladies went for a run in the morning, and to make a longer story short: 5 others (of which I am one) decided to start running as well. We are doing the “From couch to 5K plan”, which aims to get you to run 30 minutes in 9 weeks. And I got there!! I did the 30 minutes continuous running. For me that’s not yet 5 kilometers, but I’ll get there too.
We don’t run together in real life, we’re too far apart and even in two countries. We’re following the same program and keep in touch by email telling each other how it goes, cheering each other on. We prepared ourselves, bought running shoes, downloaded the podcasts and started.
THANK YOU Joana, Marta, Hilde and Viv, I couldn’t have done this without you. I know you got there too or are close to it. Yeah for us!
We follow this program from the UK NHS. In the podcasts Laura talks you through the runs, and I can hardly believe that I never liked running before. I was not really a couch potatoe before I started, I went to the gym regularly and do quite a bit of walking and cycling, but always said that running is not for me. DH has been running for about 15 years, I was not understanding the fun of it. Now I do, though I am not aiming for any long distances, there will be no marathon in my future. That would take too much of my sewing time ;-)
Next time we meet (which will be in Paris soon), my sewing friends and I will be running there too, so from sewing to running….

Congratulations! That is a great achievement. You will want to start sewing workout gear as well...be the best dressed runner around.

ReplyDeleteHow exciting! I started running about 3 years ago using the Couch to 5K. I'm still running these days! I started while I was about halfway through a major weight loss. These days I've found I NEED to run, it makes the rest of my regular life just feel better, my mind clearer and just have a better outlook on life. And I would LOVE to see some activewear/running gear from you. I'm big on sewing my own already, I'm sure with your experience in making lingerie you'll be able to excel in this genre of sewing as well.
ReplyDeleteMust be something about crafters and running? I have a craft friend and we also talk about running and have done a couch to 5k thing at the same time (though not together as different cities!). Offsets all the sitting around knitting and sewing I guess! Keep at it :)

ReplyDeleteCongratulations! Once you get the running bug it just doesn't go away ;) I have been running for over 25+ years and absolutely love it. In my 50.s now and hope to be doing it well into my 60's and plus some ....I also do other excercise activities but running is my go to fitness exercise. Keep up the great work. And that's a great idea to run in different countries with sewing buddies!!
ReplyDeleteWat leuk dat je bent begonnen met hardlopen. Ik loop sinds een jaar, inmiddels train ik voor de 10 km van Rotterdam. Helaas heb ik nu een knieblessure door een stom ongelukje op wintersport. Ik hoop maar dat het snel over is, want het is na het naaien ook een fijne verslaving geworden. Je eigen workout kleding maken is heel leuk om te doen, mijn broeken zitten lekkerder dan die ik in de winkel koop. Geschikte tofjes vinden valt niet altijd mee.

ReplyDeleteI just started running about 6 months ago and will be running my first half marathon in a couple of weeks. (Sure wish it would warm up a bit...)
I echo the others too that it would be fun to see you sew running gear with all your sewing experience ;)

oh congratulations!! That is a big achievement. My husband and I did that program together. He now runs a lot. I never even made it to 30 minutes of running, it was just so hard and I decided to exercise in other ways.
