That’s how it feels to me. Next is a jacket from a Burda from 2000 (too lazy to check the month now). I was looking for a pattern I remembered for a jacket in one of the old issues I have, but that appeared not to be what I was looking for, but I found this pattern instead.
The fabric is linen, it has a stripe in the length which doesn't show well in the picture, along with an abstract flower woven in.
The muslin on my “dressform to be”, more on that later, it’s sturdy enough now to be used for the first time, though it’s not finished yet.
I traced a size 40, did a proper FBA as described in the book Fit for real people and took in the center back seam a bit at the wiast. I tapered down a size larger in the hip area, but need more space there.
Trying the muslin on myself showed a strange fold in the sleeve, but I checked it with the sleeve pattern of one of my favorite jackets (Burda too) and it’s practically the same.
I’d like a bit casual jacket and consider taking the vertical darts out. What do you think?
I think that it is going to be a beautiful jacket in that fabric. I don't know but I love vertical darts for helping me to fit in the torso area.
ReplyDeleteThe jacket is going to be awesome! Sigrid, the muslin appears to fit so well - not sure about taking out the vertical darts.
ReplyDeleteThe darts - depends if you like boxy jackets on you really. For me I would have the darts as I don't find boxy flattering on me.
ReplyDeleteI had a dress form like yours done but I found it was much larger than me - not sure what happened. I only just recently threw it out. My duct tape dummy has also deflated, so I really need a new one.
BTW, love that jacket pattern.
Looking good!
ReplyDeleteI too would keep the darts, I think they will provide just enough shape to prevent it looking boxy!
Personally I prefer shaping to not, so my preference is to keep the darts in your jacket. I think it's going to look lovely.
ReplyDeleteI made this one! It was deep green and I felt like en elf, hehe. The shaping is lovely, and I would keep the darts, too.
ReplyDeleteI'm a bit of a random projects person too! If I were you I would keep the darts, you have a small waist and it's good to show it off!
ReplyDeleteI had the same reaction reading your post, Sigrid, and the same word sprang to mind about taking out the darts - "boxy". Looking at the Burda pic again, I thought that the jacket DOES look casual - the fringed edge and the funky zips add to the casual look. The fabric looks perfect for it.
ReplyDeleteWell, this year really boxy 80s jackets are in, so you could get away with no darts. But this suits you well, so not sure you want to unless you want to be very deliberately 80s??
ReplyDeleteI love the fabric you've chosen for this. I'd leave the front darts in. I don't think that you'll be happy with a boxy shape.
ReplyDeleteKeep the darts!

That is going to be a great jacket! Love that tone on tone floral print.
ReplyDeleteThat linen fabric is beautiful. This will make a very nice jacket.
