Sleeve plackets done

I'm going to make blouse #104 from the BWOF February issue. After a week of many working hours I felt like making the t-shirt of the last post first, as an instant gratification project. Now it's time for the blouse.  I long debated with myself whether or not to make the "blind flap" as it is described, which is also in the back with a pleat, and in the end decided to make it as designed with flap.

And of course I "had to" do something different then the instructions tell you.Tonight I made the plackets and cuffs of the sleeves (strange working order, I know). I used the drawing from David P. Coffin's book for the placket, but used the instructions from Mary Beth, which are very helpful. I do like Coffin's book for all the information that's in it, but find his instructions and drawings difficult to follow.

Some of you shared my views on the low neckline of the BWOF patterns. And Kat, you made me laugh with your comment, I must make an appointment with the hairdresser soon ;)

  1. I'm interested to see how your shirt turns out. A lot of the line drawings that are hard for me to visualize really wow me when they're actually put together by someone with some talent. I'm a huge fan of DPC's book too- I don't think I could make a shirt without it!

  4. Your garments are always very professional. Sleeve plackets are one of those areas that can scream "homemade". Yours are as always, perfect.

  5. I love shirts with plackets. Thank you so much for the link, I did not know Mary Beth's site. As for longer hair in an hour... well as long as you do not grow hair on your chest !! ooooohhhh horrible ;-). I really envy the speed at which you sew. I guess that the time I spend in the metro, you spend it sewing.

  6. I am making this shirt too--but my plackets do NOT look as nice as yours...wonder if I feel like taking them apart and redoing or just using your inspiration for the NEXT shirt....I am done with all but the collar and lapel. Have to have a day off to let it settle in my head--the directions sort of threw me for a loop at first!

  10. I agree with you on Coffen's book. I have had it for years and found it really hard to follow. I will have to take a look at Mary Beth's instructions. It looks perfect.
