Black pants

The black pair of pants are finished. As you all probably know, black is very difficult to photograph. The pictures DD took only show the general image, the details are completely lost. Making the image lighter didn't help. Next time I must make sure the picture is made during the daylight hours, that may be better.

The detail pictures I took earlier are better, so this is what it looks like. Personally I love the combination with the red belt and shoes. The blouse is too wide rtw one. Since buying this I think fashion has changed to closer fitting blouses, or my perception of a good fitting blouse has changed. Two good white blouses needed ironing, and I was just lazy.

I didn't finish the waist as described in the pattern (see picture in previous post), but closed the pleat to the top. This time I made the back welt pockets, and though not perfect, they are fine. Never use those pockets, but I like the look of a rtw detail.

The waistband was finished with a bit of the red lining I will use for my next jacket, that you can see in the picture below. It's the new version of the Vogue jacket, and I've been working on this on and of for weeks now. The start was in my bad sewing weeks, and I made some serious mistakes, including cutting the wrong back pattern piece. This resulted in buying more of the fabric, and the supplier had only just over a yard left! Lucky me.

I want to "bag the lining" and are just postponing that step, it's a first for me, and having trouble to test the waters (as I believe the expression is).

  1. Gorgeous! I love the details and they do make your pants look rtw. My Nana always showed me the inside of her clothing, saying that it should look just as good as the outside. That red lining makes it so high end. The jacket looks great. Once you bag the lining you'll wonder what you were waiting for. I have sewn in linings by hand, and it just doesn't hold up as well.

  2. You're right. The pocket is an awesome RTW detail. I like the look. U found daylight helps a lot with black clothing. Well, with the two pieces of black clothing I've ever made :)

  4. What beautiful pants, and fantastic details. You seem to have a narrow back (I envy you :)), so a more fitted blouse will look perfect.
Since black is my preferred color, I have learned that daylight is indeed the best source when photographing so I now always go outside.

  6. I like the welt pocket and the way you finished the waistband very much!

There is another thing that helps when you photograph black things (besides daylight): not too much contrast. Most digital cameras have problems with high contrast, they "decide" either for the dark or the light part of the pic and usually for the part with more light. So when you stand in front of a white wall and wear a white top its harder for your camera than when you stand in front of a darker background and wear a darker top.

(So far for the theory, when it comes to take a pic I usually forget to follow my own advice... *lol*)

  7. Gorgeous trousers! They look so high-end. I'm drooling. The interior finish and the welt pocket really 'make' them.

  8. The pants are sharp! Especially the back pocket. I think we've all been there with cutting out the wrong pattern piece. UGH!

  12. "black is very difficult to photograph" - Tell me about it! I'm having trouble photographing my velvet coat!

Your pants turned out quite well! You were lucky to find more of the same fabric... Hopefully you'll get the jacket done in no time!

(catching up - I'm at the office working today but everybody else left so I'm taking this chance to catch up on my friends)
