I'm anxiously awaiting your post on how you modify this as I think I'll be doing the same!stacysewshttp://www.stacysews.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6215123741467950471.post-43046717348002773122009-06-06T21:31:27.422+02:002009-06-06T21:31:27.422+02:00I would always defer to Summerset's knowledge ...I would always defer to Summerset's knowledge base on sewing! Love the color--and I saw a dress just like this in the window at Tommy Bahama this morning. It was the same garment, just ankle length. I serged the top edge, zigzag stitched a soft/plush 1" elastic around the top, turned the elastic to the inside and stitched in the ditch at the side seams. Like you said there are 5 layers at the top and 10 layers plus elastic at the top after I finished it this way...still pretty thick.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6215123741467950471.post-22247775689627618372009-06-06T14:10:55.285+02:002009-06-06T14:10:55.285+02:00Lcuky daughter & clever mom.Lcuky daughter & clever mom.a little sewinghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18086285440873869055noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6215123741467950471.post-19319716658352497292009-06-06T13:38:26.944+02:002009-06-06T13:38:26.944+02:00My daughter liked this one too, but I knew it was ...My daughter liked this one too, but I knew it was going to be too complicated for the speed sewing I do for her. I wonder if you could finish the top edges of the drape pieces separately so they are not attached to the main body of the top (if that makes any sense at all!).AllisonChttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07431369603470575306noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6215123741467950471.post-21090048111743681342009-06-06T03:22:29.628+02:002009-06-06T03:22:29.628+02:00Holy Wow. Sorry I am not helpful with any alternate ideas! The only solution I can think of is what Summerset said, or maybe choose another really thin, sheer fabric for the front gathered overlays (eg. stretch tulle).Sew-4-Funhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03340344934860568228noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6215123741467950471.post-40721335579888393002009-06-05T23:28:57.935+02:002009-06-05T23:28:57.935+02:00Love the color. Looking at the style, this is what I would do to get rid of a few layers. I would not cut piece 3 on a fold, but cut it long enough to hem the bottom edge (or not, this is knit and many RTW knits are not hemmed these Summersethttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00364235843222794829noreply@blogger.com
