Still there – snoop shopping

I’m still there, just a bit silent on the blog. All’s fine, only very, very busy with work, a daughter leaving the house and all other things that happen in life. Sewing? None! Reading blogs? Occasionally only. I’ve ordered me some sewing books, the Marfy catalogue, even bought some fabric. Just couldn’t find the time to sew.

This afternoon I felt I could breath a little again, did some snoop shopping on the internet, looking for inspiration. I thought the combination of these fabrics was nice.

Look at the back of this jacket (mind you, this is a jacket with a $650 price tag!). To me it looks the jacket was too wide when finished and a “dart”  or partial center back seam was added later. The seams on the lower part of the jacket also look like they have been redone after finishing.

I know, if you don’t sew you probably won’t see this or mind at all. It would bother me though if I had sewn the back of a jacket like this. Says something about me, being too perfectionist sometimes.  I’ll be looking at further inspiration and hope to find time for sewing soon.

Till then: enjoy the autumn colors (or spring if you’re in the Southern hemisphere).

  2. I just bought a copy of Burda 2-2006 after seeing Allison's skirt(Allison C. Sewing Gallery)a few posts ago. I was admiring jacket 129. It looks a lot like your inspiration jacket. Minus that horrible seam down the back of course.

  3. Oh yes. I agree with your comment on the back of the jacket. Looks like a quick fix rather than a proper remake! Maybe I'll reconsider those darts on the neckline of the dress I am making. If expensive designers can do it, why can't I?

  4. Beautiful spring morning here in Melbourne and it is going to be a beautiful day :) Yes, that back dart is terrible, but the jacket is great for inspiration.

  5. No, not too much of a perfectionist; that's why we sew! It's still an interesting jacket.

  6. That back seam looks like a major afterthought and would have turned me off from an otherwise great jacket. Luckily, as sewists, we know how to correct such things and I can't wait to see what you do.

  7. Ok! So the money is in the decoration, and not in fine sewing. Nice jacket, but I couldn't wear it, thinking I messed up on the seam matching!!

  8. So, I can get $650 for my 'behind-the-seams' quick fixes, too? That back is a hot mess.

  9. I couldn't wear a jacket with a dart in the back, either, especially something so fancy otherwise. I don't think you are too much of a perfectionist! It takes that sort of discernment to become very skilled, and that you are.

  10. I would love to use this jacket for inspiration for a jacket I am making in my fashion design course. Where did you see the original please?

  12. It looks like something I would consider as a quick fix, but dismiss because my sewing frinds would see right through it!

  13. Lovely concept and fabrics for the jacket, but I'd want perfection at that price. They don't seem to have done such a good job of lining up their topstitching either. Being a home sewer, of course it bothers me!

  14. This is why I make nearly all my clothes. At first glance, this jacket looks great. The detail across the shoulders and on the sleeves is very eyecatching. When you really look at it, though, it's absolutely horrible. And they want how much for it? They should be ashamed to even put it on a hanger in a corner in the very back of the store!

  15. Long time no pass here, dear Sigrid! That dart in the back of the jacket hurt my eye, that's why we sew ... to avoid these "disasters". A thousand kisses,

  16. The fabric mix on this is very cool, but yes it does look sloppily constructed! Crazy! I would feel bad for whoever spent $650 on this. Hope all is going well!
